본격적으로 수능 모드에 돌입 하기 전 가장 먼저 해야 할 일이다. 목표가 불분명한 상태에서의 수능 준비는 결국 갈피를 잡지 못한 채 포기하게 되는 경우가 많다. 이 때문에 자신의 적성과 진로를 찾아내고 자기 점검을 통해 원하는 대학 및 학과 등을 5~6군데 정도 정해 이를 목표로 삼고 입시를 준비해야 한다.

수험생들에게 주요 시기별로 학습 전략은 수능까지의 시간을 가장 효율적으로 사용할 수 있는 방법이다. 겨울방학, 1학기, 모의평가, 여름방학, 2학기 등의 시기에 따른 전략을 세우지 않을 경우 수험생활에 지루함을 느끼거나 그간 쌓아온 공부도 ‘수박 겉 핥기’식의 학습밖에 되지 않을 수 있다.

2011학년도 수시모집 인원은 지난해보다 1만여 명 늘어난 23만여 명이 될 것으로 전망된다. 전체 모집인원의 60%가 넘을 정도로 수시가 대세라는 것. 이 때문에 수험생들에게는 수시모집 지원 계획도 ‘필요하면’ 세우는 것이 아니라, ‘필수적’으로 마련해놔야 하는 것이 되고 있다.

또한 수시모집에서 적성검사를 실시하는 대학이 늘어난다는 점도 체크하자. 적성검사는 논술고사와는 다르게 객관식으로 출제되기 때문에, 중위권 및 중하위권 수험생들에게는 비교적 가벼움을 가지고 지원할 수 있다.

수시에서 입학사정관 전형을 실시하는 대학은 서울대, 고려대 등 110여 개, 모집정원은 3만5천명으로 지난해에 모집 비율 보다 2배로 늘어났다. 올해 수시모집 합격자 6명 중 한 명이 입학사정관제로 들어간다는 것. 이러한 입학사정관제 전형 내용을 꼼꼼하게 살펴보는 것도 성공적인 입시를 위한 한 방법이다.
